A great nation is like a great man;
When he makes a mistake, he realizes it.
Having realized it, he admits it.
Having admitted it, he corrects it.
He considers those who point out his faults
as his most benevolent teachers.
He thinks of his enemy
as the shadow he himself casts.
If a nation is centered in the Tao,
if it nourishes its own people
and doesn't meddle in the affairs of others,
it will be a great light to all nations in the world.
Tao te Ching
Verse 61

How perfect on this auspicious day. Thank you, Jane.
This beautiful quote encompasses all that our new president tried to convey in his inspiring speech today. My heart is so full tonight. Thank you for sharing this.

This Canadian is praying for him, too. He is a great example of someone who brings out the greatness in others. And thank you for the reminder about who our most benevolent teachers are. A writer I read often, Byron Katie, has lucidly expanded that point in her writings.
