"Without the difficulty of being hemmed in, a tree in the forest would not be forced to marshal its power to grow toward the light. It must truly bring forth all its inner strength to spread its branches. If it becomes grand, it is in part because of its suffering. Thus the times of adversity can be crucial to the development of one's inner personality."

This takes my breath away. I am in awe. The photograph expresses the words perfectly, even without the words--the striving, the strength, the grandness. And certainly it is the bleak, non-nourishing time of year. Wow! Just incredible.
And why does it work so well? Does the monochromatic palette focus the attention so strongly on the spreading, uplifting branches? Do the branches and trunks bring us up, down and around? Even the delicate laciness speaks of strength, they're strong against the sky.
I don't understand how you can keep getting better and better. Thank you.
Great photograph! The fact that this is a color photograph takes me to a place less visted and reminds me that the power of contrast can be achieved in so many different ways.
